Parkinson's Care
Finding the right care setting for Parkinson's-related needs
General information only — always follow your loved one's neurologist for medical guidance specific to their diagnosis and stage.
Parkinson's is primarily a movement disorder — tremors, stiffness, balance problems, slower movement — which makes it meaningfully different from a memory-first condition like Alzheimer's, even though the two can eventually overlap for some people as Parkinson's progresses. That difference matters for what kind of home actually fits.
How care needs tend to show up
- Fall risk is often the first serious safety concern — homes with accessible layouts, minimal stairs, and staff attentive to mobility make a real difference
- Medication timing matters more than with many other conditions — Parkinson's medications are frequently dosed on a strict schedule, and staff need to be reliable about it
- Physical therapy and mobility support — some homes coordinate more actively with outside PT than others
- Cognitive changes can develop in later stages for some, but not all, people with Parkinson's — if that becomes part of the picture, our memory care page covers what to look for there
An honest note on how we help here
We're not going to claim a formal "Parkinson's specialty network" we don't have — what we do is the same thing we do for every family: understand the specific, current needs (mobility level, medication complexity, fall risk, whether cognitive symptoms are present) and match to homes with the staffing, layout, and attentiveness to actually support that. For some families that's a community-style assisted living home with strong PT coordination; for others it's a smaller board and care setting where staff can give more individual attention to medication timing and mobility.
What it costs
Pricing generally follows the underlying care type (assisted living or board and care) rather than a separate "Parkinson's" category — see our cost guide for current ranges by setting.
